This initiative reinforces the unit's commitment to humanized care

The Public General Hospital Castelo dos Sonhos, located in the district of the same name in the municipality of Altamira (PA), in the southwestern state, has reached an important milestone in its journey of welcoming and inclusion. This week, the unit carried out its first two admissions of indigenous patients with the official delivery of the Companion and Visitor Manual translated into the Kayapó language.

The action, carried out by the unit's social assistance team in partnership with the User Service (SAU), was received with enthusiasm and gratitude by the indigenous companions. They showed deep interest in the material presented in their native language.

The manual was translated by Bekati Mekragnotire, indigenous technical advisor of CONDISI (Indigenous Health District Councils), from the Indigenous Health District of the Tapajós River.

The initiative is part of a series of actions aimed at humanizing hospital care and respecting the cultural diversity of the population served. The hospital is one of the main access points to health for indigenous and riverside communities in the region, located along the BR-230 (Transamazon) and BR-163 (Cuiabá–Santarém) highways.

"When the patient understands what is happening around them, in their own language and within their cultural reality, they take an active role in their treatment. This increases the chances of adherence, trust, and recovery. This is a fundamental step to ensure truly humanized and effective care," emphasized the unit's general director, Diego Carlis.

For the hospital, the manual in Kayapó symbolizes more than a translation: it represents the recognition of the cultural and linguistic specificities of the indigenous peoples who frequently seek care at the unit. The measure also strengthens the protagonism of these communities in their own health journey, promoting respect, dignity, and active listening in the hospital environment.

According to social worker Jeane Maria dos Santos, the manual represents a significant initiative to strengthen communication between the hospital and users, especially indigenous peoples.

"This concern to promote a stronger bond reflects our commitment to ensuring rights, respecting and valuing indigenous culture, in addition to contributing to the promotion of the autonomy of these peoples," said Jeane.

The social worker also stated: "the action demonstrates that we are committed to building a relationship based on listening, mutual respect, and inclusion, recognizing the richness and importance of cultural diversity."

With 34 beds, both operational and non-operational, the Public General Hospital Castelo dos Sonhos is a regional reference for low-complexity care.

The unit offers consultations, exams, surgeries, and follow-ups in seven medical specialties: General Surgery, Orthopedics and Traumatology, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Anesthesiology, Cardiology, and Internal Medicine.

Belonging to the Government of Pará, the hospital has been consolidating itself as a safe haven for the local population, with special attention to social inclusion and ethical, qualified care.
