PC of Pará integrates operation of PC of Santa Catarina to execute warrants
The action investigates banking frauds in which suspects impersonate INSS employees and open bank accounts in the names of victims for loans
The Civil Police of Pará provided operational support to the Civil Police of Santa Catarina, which launched the operation "Safe Retirement." The action, which took place on the morning of this Thursday (8), was coordinated by the Fraud Investigation Department, a unit linked to the State Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DEIC/SC), to execute 24 search and seizure warrants in the cities of Belém, Ananindeua, and Capanema in Pará, and in Florianópolis, the capital of the state of Santa Catarina (SC).
"During our investigations, we were able to verify that the suspects impersonated INSS employees, obtained the victims' data, and after opening accounts in the names of these victims, made payroll loans, transferring these amounts to the accounts of one of the investigated individuals. Shortly after, the amounts were distributed into several other accounts to hinder the tracking of these funds," explained delegate Leonardo da Silva, head of the Fraud Investigation Department (PCSC).
The estimated loss for the victims in Santa Catarina was around R$ 100,000, and when considering the victims from other states, the amount exceeds 10 million reais. The suspects were taken to the police station with cell phones and internet devices seized by public security agents.
"The Civil Police of Pará provided operational support to PCSC throughout the operation period with address surveys, updated identification of targets, as well as in the execution of the warrants. The PCPA reaffirms its partnership with the civil police of other federative units and its commitment to public safety," pointed out delegate Gabriel Batista, director of NIP/PCPA.
Agents from the Police Intelligence Center (NIP) and the Specialized Police Directorate (DPE), through the actions of the Division of Investigations and Special Operations (DIOE) and the Division for the Suppression of Organized Crime (DRCO), acted during the execution of the warrants.
After giving statements, all individuals who were taken to the police station were released. Some cell phones were returned, while others were kept seized to support other phases of the investigation.
