Ideflor-Bio studies the creation of a Conservation Unit in Bujaru
The area in the Engenho Bom Intento region has a great diversity of fauna and flora species, including a samaumeira with almost 30 meters in circumference

The Biodiversity Management Directorate (DGBio) of the Institute of Forest Development and Biodiversity of Pará (Ideflor-Bio), in partnership with the Environment Secretary of Bujaru, conducted studies aimed at creating a Conservation Unit (UC) in the municipality of northeastern Pará.
The studies took place in the Engenho Bom Intento region, where there is a great diversity of Amazonian fauna and flora. The studied area has a samaumeira, a large tree nearby, with a sapopema-type root base, approximately 30 meters in circumference, and the DAP of the trunk (designation for diameter at 1.30 meters from ground level) between 15 and 20 meters.

According to the Environment Secretary of Bujaru, Leuda Coelho, the action results from the efforts of the municipal management, together with Ideflor-Bio, for environmental preservation. “For us, Bujaruians, it is an honor to pay tribute to the samaumeira of our city, such a rare species of the Amazon, with the creation of a conservation space, so that it and other species remain preserved in our municipality,” said the secretary.

Tourism - The Biodiversity Manager of Ideflor-Bio, Mônica Furtado, emphasized that the study for the creation of the UC reinforces the availability of tourist attractions in Bujaru. “This tree is one of the highlights of the place, and this space, by becoming a Conservation Unit, increases the offer of tourist attractions, both cultural and historical, for the municipality of Bujaru,” she informed.
For the Director of Biodiversity Management of Ideflor-Bio, Crisomar Lobato, “the creation of a Conservation Unit in Bujaru represents an important step to strengthen the protection of Amazonian biodiversity and enhance the natural heritage of the municipality. The presence of an imposing samaumeira in the area reinforces the symbolism and ecological importance of the place. Our work is to ensure that these riches are preserved for future generations, while promoting the sustainable development of the region.”
