Proper hand hygiene is essential in health prevention measures, and in order to reinforce this practice, the Hospital Infection Control Commission (CCIH), in partnership with the Permanent Education Center (NEP) of the Hospital da Mulher do Pará (HMPA) in Belém, held the first professional training for the assistance teams of the unit this Monday (05), World Hand Hygiene Day. The program will extend until this Tuesday (06).

The nurse from the CCIH of the Hospital da Mulher, Ana Carolina Pimentel, emphasizes that the initiative is more than just a moment of awareness about the practice. "It is to affirm our commitment to patient safety, infection prevention, and quality of care. As health professionals, we have the power to interrupt the chain of transmission of microorganisms with a quick, effective, and accessible action, which is proper hand hygiene. Let’s take advantage of this date to educate and engage our teams in creating a culture of guaranteed safety every day," she stressed.

During the action, some dynamics were prepared that brought together professionals from the hospital unit, incorporating elements of Pará culture. "With educational actions, practical demonstrations, and an interactive quiz, our first Hand Hygiene Campaign - In the rhythm of Pavulagem, clean hands are just an advantage - aims to transform this simple gesture into a permanent habit, after all, taking care of hands is also taking care of life," highlighted the NEP coordinator, Daiane Nunes.

Initiative - World Hand Hygiene Day, celebrated annually on May 5, was established by the World Health Organization (WHO) and this year's theme is "Gloves, sometimes. Hand hygiene, always." The date reinforces the need for proper hand hygiene practices, according to the 5 moments, as well as the correct use of gloves and awareness of the environmental impact caused by glove disposal.
