The State Department of Transit (Detran) started on this Monday (5), the programming of the "Yellow May 2025" campaign, which this year has the theme "Human Mobility, Human Responsibility". The actions began with the Multiplicator Agent Course in Traffic Education, in Belém, for a group of about 30 agents from the State Highway Police Battalion.

According to Detran's pedagogue and monitor, Geisa Tavares, the objective of the course is to train agents and encourage the adoption of safe behaviors in traffic. "During the training, we will show the methodology of educational approaches, how to conduct educational lectures on traffic, and also how to work on this theme with children, youth, and adolescents, and how to develop action plans," she explains.

Lieutenant Colonel Glauco Mourão

The commander of the Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Glauco Mourão, spoke about the expectations of the course. "The expectations are the best, the purpose is to bring police officers from the highway battalion, and to enhance our knowledge in the area of traffic education, which is a very important aspect of traffic. We intend to multiply this knowledge within our troop, after all, this course has two very good aspects, the first is to train and achieve the purpose of the course, which is education itself, which is to convey to drivers and future drivers."

Yellow May

Created by the United Nations (UN) on May 11, 2011, within the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020, "Yellow May" is an international movement dedicated to mobilizing society for safer traffic. The yellow symbolizes attention at traffic signals, to highlight the urgency of reducing violence in traffic.

In Pará, Detran will carry out a series of actions throughout the month in homage to the theme of Yellow May and this year's educational campaigns, which have the main slogan "Slow Down. Your greatest asset is life!". During these 30 days, the agency will intensify educational activities in various areas, from companies, schools, universities, educational centers, approaches on public roads, Peace Factories, and a traveling mini-circuit.

The programming starts this first week, but in Belém, the official opening of the Yellow May campaign will take place on May 13, at the Amazon Village, in partnership with the Municipal Secretary of Security, Public Order, and Mobility of Belém (SEGBEL).

Detran, aligned with its mission to protect lives and ensure safety on state highways, has been carrying out various actions and projects to reduce accidents, especially those caused by speeding. In addition to reinforcing educational campaigns, since 2020, the agency has implemented horizontal and vertical signage in more than 50 municipalities and state highways, as well as the installation of speed controllers and video monitoring to reinforce its commitment to safer and more humanized traffic.
