The Government of Pará delivered, on the morning of this Wednesday (30), another important infrastructure project for the Metropolitan Region of Belém: the overpass on BR-316 with Avenida Independência. The structure is part of the Metropolitan BRT intervention complex and represents a significant advancement in urban mobility and regional development.

During the ceremony, Governor Helder Barbalho, who was accompanied by Vice Governor Hana Ghassan, First Lady Daniela Barbalho, and other federal, state, and municipal authorities, highlighted the impact of the project on traffic flow.

“This important project represents a fundamental step in facilitating traffic and urban mobility in the metropolitan region,” said the governor. “It is part of a set of investments we are making with new overpasses. This is the third overpass delivered in the last two years, built in just nine months, efficiently and quickly for the population,” he continued.

According to Helder, with the delivery of the structure, three traffic lights will be removed from the area, which will facilitate traffic on BR-316.

“And within a month, we will be removing a fourth traffic light, in front of Estrada do Aurá, with the completion of a footbridge that will allow people to move to the center of Ananindeua,” he announced.

Upcoming deliveries - The governor also detailed the schedule for upcoming deliveries.

“On May 30, we will deliver the overpass that connects Mário Covas to Travessa Três Corações, accessing Cidade Nova. And on July 30, the overpass at Mário Covas with Avenida Independência will be inaugurated.”

Helder made a point of recapping the investments already made. “We are talking about the overpass on Avenida Ananin, which connects BR to Cidade Nova; the overpass that connects BR to Alça Viária; and now this one, between Avenida Independência and BR-316. With the next two, we total five overpasses built by the Government in this region between Ananindeua and Marituba.”

The head of the State Executive also reinforced that this is the largest investment in urban mobility in the history of the Metropolitan Region of Belém. “By July 30, we will complete the BRT works, with articulated, electric, and low-emission buses, in addition to the integration terminals,” he declared. “We are talking about more than 250 new buses, with air conditioning and Wi-Fi, purchased by the Government of Pará and destined exclusively for the BRT system.”

These vehicles will integrate with feeder lines from Benevides, Marituba, Santa Bárbara, and Ananindeua, taking passengers to the terminals with a single fare.

Another important project mentioned by the governor was the construction of Avenida Liberdade. “By the end of October, we will inaugurate this new 13 km expressway that connects Alça Viária to the Federal University of Pará,” Helder explained. “It will be an alternative to BR-316, without traffic lights, fully fenced, with 36 wildlife crossings and LED lighting. It will be the most sustainable avenue in Brazil,” he pointed out.

About the delivered work - The newly inaugurated overpass is 740 meters long and 14 meters wide, with dual lanes, drainage system, and modern lighting. The project was executed with resources from the State Treasury, totaling an investment of over R$ 24 million. More than 200 local workers were involved in the construction, promoting employment and income in the region.

The Secretary of Infrastructure and Logistics, Adler Silveira, highlighted the impact of the delivery. “This was one of the most critical points of BR-316, with long queues and traffic lights that hindered flow. Now we have smoother, safer, and more efficient traffic. This project represents development, integration, and quality of life for the population,” he stated.

Residents of the area also commented on the benefits. For motorcyclist Givanildo Ferreira da Silva, the difference is already noticeable. “It will improve almost 100%. It was total congestion; it was hard to get through. Now it’s a piece of cake,” said Givanildo.

Retired security guard Mário de Carvalho Filho also celebrated the improvement. “It was chaos, traffic all the time. On the way there and back, it improves traffic; it’s less risky for accidents,” he said.

Meanwhile, general services worker Sueli Cardoso, a resident of Marituba, emphasized the impact on the routine of those who depend on transportation. “It will unclog our traffic, which was very congested. People had difficulty getting to work. Now it will improve 100%. We thank our governor for this wonderful work,” she concluded.
