PSRM Fire Brigade Enhances Safety for Patients and Professionals
Training reinforces the culture of prevention and prepares professionals to act quickly and efficiently in emergency situations in the hospital

To ensure the safety of patients, companions, and professionals circulating in the hospital environment, the Dr. Roberto Macedo Emergency Room (PSRM) held an intensive training for the formation of the unit's Fire Brigade on this Monday (28) and Tuesday (29).
The course aimed to prepare participants from various areas of the hospital to act efficiently in emergencies. In addition to fire fighting and safe evacuations, the firefighters were trained to assess risks, recognize emergencies, and provide first aid. During the training, participants received guidance on the correct use of safety equipment and the importance of executing the Evacuation Plan quickly and effectively in the face of risk situations, contributing to a safer and more prepared hospital environment.

Among the topics covered were the different types of fire extinguishers and their applications, as well as the identification of critical safety points in the unit. The second day of activities concluded with a practical stage, where future firefighters learned to correctly handle extinguishers and hydrants for initial fire fighting.
According to Clóvis Silva, Occupational Safety Technician of the Specialized Service in Safety Engineering and Occupational Medicine (SESMT), the PSRM Fire Brigade is capable not only of fighting fires but also of providing first aid in cases of accidents, injuries, or sudden illness. "The quick and effective action of the Fire Brigade can significantly reduce material damage and loss of life. Therefore, the work that the firefighters will perform is extremely important for the safety of patients, companions, families, and workers who move around the hospital environment," emphasizes the professional.

The administrative director of PSRM, Arlete Ribeiro, reinforced that the Fire Brigade represents more than compliance with a legal requirement — it is an investment in the lives of all who make up the hospital unit. "The firefighters are a silent but fundamental force within any institution, as they are our attentive ears and agile hands in a critical situation. Moreover, they will be our disseminators of a culture of prevention within the hospital unit, as we know that prevention is everyone's duty, but the firefighters will be our leaders in spreading the importance of prevention," emphasizes the manager.

Ana da Costa Silva, mother of patient Taylor Alan da Costa Arruda, who has been hospitalized at PSRM for about a month, reported that she feels safer knowing about the existence of the brigade in the unit.
"I feel more at ease knowing that, in addition to caring for people's health, this hospital also cares for the physical integrity of everyone. With these trained professionals ready to act in emergencies that could put our lives at risk, such as fires, my son and I definitely feel more at ease," said the companion, a resident of Ananindeua.
