PCT Guamá receives representatives from new associated laboratories
The call opened in March has already accredited 17 new laboratories and expects to increase the participation of researchers from different fields of knowledge
The Science and Technology Park (PCT) Guamá received, on the morning of this Friday (28), representatives from 17 new laboratories associated with the call for "Public Selection for Laboratories Associated with the PCT Guamá Ecosystem." The morning of presentations is part of an initiative aimed at attracting new laboratories that can contribute to the institution's mission of stimulating applied research and innovative and sustainable entrepreneurship, aiming to improve the quality of life of the population.
For the president of the Guamá Foundation, which manages the Park, Professor João Weyl, this is an important moment to "get to know and present what the Park has to offer them in terms of facilities, hiring, usage, and ease, our program's auditorium, boosting companies, training, consulting, and event organization."
The call, opened in March of this year, with a continuous submission flow, has already accredited 17 new laboratories and expects to increase the participation of researchers from different fields of knowledge. "From now on, our Technical Directorate group will conduct a study on this portfolio here, these aggregations. We will hold another round of discussions with the coordinators to understand what we need to do to boost services, and certainly, because we have progress, now we already know where we can work more efficiently for complementary and broad work," says Weyl.
Multidisciplinary integration - The call integrates laboratories from different areas of scientific knowledge such as the Laboratory of Biomaterials, Bioproducts, and Biofabrication Technologies (Labbio), based at the Institute of Biological Sciences (ICB-UFPA). According to Marcele Passos, a professor at the Faculty of Biotechnology and coordinator of Labbio, joining the Park Ecosystem aims, first, to "generate products that are aligned with sociobiodiversity, strengthening the local economy. In addition, to generate services for society in a less bureaucratic way. Besides the training and formation of qualified human resources, for example, by creating postgraduate courses."
The increase in the number of associates aims to not only increase the quantity of research developed at the center but also to provide interaction among researchers for the sharing of technologies and innovation in the Amazon. Professor Marcos Braga from the Federal Rural University of the Amazon (Ufra), Paragominas campus, and coordinator of the Applied Computing Laboratory, highlights that joining the ecosystem broadens the laboratory's horizons.
"First, the possibility of raising funds, of more financing, which our projects depend on, and second, the possibility of offering the solutions we have already developed, in the health and education areas. So, through the Foundation, we can open this range and offer our products, our technological and innovative solutions to the population, to society, to industry, to the government, which can encompass these solutions, this is the main idea at first," says the professor.
New partners - The first technological park in the Northern region, PCT Guamá occupies an area between the campuses of UFPA and Ufra, and has a rich biodiversity ecosystem; the complex houses more than 30 resident companies, over 40 associates, 12 research and development laboratories for processes and products, in addition to the Dr. Celso Malcher Technical School.
The new members total about 200 researchers among coordinators and undergraduate and graduate scholarship holders. Representatives of laboratories interested in joining the network can submit their applications through the link to the submission form.
