Government of Pará and Chinese embassy discuss commercial partnerships and Belém's preparation for COP30
Governor Helder Barbalho heard from Ambassador Zhu Qingqiao that China is confident in the success of the environmental conference in the capital of Pará
The governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, received the Chinese ambassador, Zhu Qingqiao, at the Government Palace in Belém on Tuesday (12). They discussed economic partnership and the opening of new markets, as well as their expectations for the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), which will take place in November in the capital of Pará.
Helder Barbalho presented to the Chinese ambassador the state economic panorama, which mainly includes steel production, cattle traceability, and sustainable livestock farming. He also highlighted the importance of the partnership with the Asian country, which has established itself as the second-largest economic power on the planet.

"It is a great pleasure to welcome you. China is our largest trading partner; it represents more than 50% of our exports, whether of mineral commodities or animal protein. And we want to increasingly strengthen this commercial and diplomatic relationship. We know that China signals convergence with this initiative already implemented here in the State regarding cattle traceability. Pará is committed to having 100% of our livestock individually traced by 2026," the governor informed.

Good practices and new markets - Helder Barbalho also emphasized that "today we have 50,000 individually traced cattle units, ensuring productive integrity for the meat industry and signaling to the consumer that they are consuming an animal that has in its history all the necessary environmental integrity process in a sustainable activity. Therefore, we want to present and deepen these discussions, especially since most of our livestock exports are precisely to China, to strengthen us internally, with livestock producers, that good practices represent new markets."
Potential - Ambassador Zhu Qingqiao highlighted China's vast potential, especially as the largest consumer of meat and a major investor in logistics and infrastructure to expand commercial activity.

He also emphasized that Chinese commerce is concerned about climate change. "Our main task, for China and Brazil, is to seek more sustainable development. And Pará has already taken an important step by trying to export 100% traced meat. I believe that Pará has many advantages to further increase this economic relationship with China. The successes achieved by the State in the transformation sector, with green development and environmental protection, especially to boost the sustainability of social development. You can believe that China and Brazil will further strengthen cooperation, both for the State and for all of Brazil, because we are already building a community of shared future," the ambassador emphasized.

Environmental conference - Another topic addressed at the meeting was the preparation of the capital of Pará to host COP30. Helder Barbalho detailed the legacy of the event for the region.
According to the governor of Pará, "at this moment leading up to COP30, we, at the local level, are working hard with the opportunity to host this, the largest climate change event in the world, with the preparation of our city, with important urban transformations, resulting in strategic legacies for our capital. Legacies in the field of urban mobility, infrastructure works, sanitation, water supply, macro-drainage, and new public facilities that enhance the city to a condition of receptivity, hospitality, including strengthening a new agenda that previously did not represent robustly, which is the tourism agenda."

The Chinese ambassador thanked the Government of Pará for its efforts to hold COP30. "It is an extremely important cause for everyone. Therefore, we are very confident that Brazil will successfully host COP," said Zhu Qingqiao.
